One Thing — Don’t Say What You're Thinking

I wonder if it’s the same for everyone.

I did it. I said something I knew was the wrong thing to say. But I said it anyway. And, as I always like to be, I was right—it was wrong.

My “one thing” challenge for this week is another simple, but not easy thing.

Find one time this week when you’re about to say something you know you’ll regret, stop. Don’t say it.

Instead, try asking a question. Or acknowledging with an “I understand.” Or nodding with an encouragement without saying anything at all.

Just once this week, don’t say something when you know it’s not helpful, even though you really want to.

Instead, notice how it feels when you don’t have to wish you could take back what you said.
